Sound you can feel and hear

The Vibroacoustic Water Mattress Base transforms the water mattress into a large surface for bodily sound perception.

An integrated full-range vibroacoustic transducer converts the audio signal into mechanical vibrations and transfers them through the base and the water mattress. The extensive contact between the mattress and the body creates an enveloping experience in which sound is not only heard: it can also be perceived through the body.

Full-range vibroacoustics

Vibroacoustics can go far beyond turning bass frequencies into vibration.

The HANDYCAT system is designed to work with a broad spectrum of the audio signal, transforming it into a richer, more nuanced and more complete bodily experience.

Music, voice and other audio content are therefore not reduced to a low-frequency effect. A much greater part of their sonic richness can participate in the bodily experience.

The aim is not simply to feel that something is vibrating, but to feel the sound itself through the body.

The intensity of the vibroacoustic experience is controlled directly and intuitively simply by raising or lowering the volume.

When the audio system provides tone controls or equalisation, bass, mid and high frequencies can also be adjusted to shape the character of the experience, without having to restrict the signal to a specific frequency band.

One sound · Three ways to experience it

With a suitable HANDYCAT audio system, the same source and the same audio content can be used simply and intuitively in three different ways:

• AMBIENT · Sound is reproduced through the room loudspeakers.
• VIBROACOUSTIC · Sound is perceived bodily through the vibroacoustic device.
• AMBIENT + VIBROACOUSTIC · The same sound is simultaneously heard in the room and perceived through the body.

This architecture makes it possible to move easily from ambient listening to bodily sound perception, or to integrate both dimensions into the same sensory experience.

Much more than vibration

It is not simply a matter of adding vibration to sound. It is about experiencing a much more complete dimension of sound through the body.

Designed for the water mattress

The vibroacoustic transducer is installed beneath the supporting surface, approximately under the user's back, to promote effective transmission of vibrations through the base and the water mattress.

The base has a firm metal structure and a continuous water-resistant wooden top surface, providing the flat and stable support required by a filled water mattress.

It has six legs, three on each side, arranged to facilitate access underneath the base for patient lifts.

The total height from the floor to the upper supporting surface is 25 cm.

Amplification

The base does not include an amplifier.

The integrated vibroacoustic transducer must be connected to an amplifier capable of delivering 100 W at 4 Ω.

The combination of full-range sound, bodily perception, ambient listening and simple control creates an especially complete vibroacoustic architecture.

HANDYCAT offers audio equipment specifically selected for use with vibroacoustic devices, allowing ambient and vibroacoustic reproduction to be integrated within the same system.

A well-configured system makes it simple to choose between ambient, vibroacoustic or ambient + vibroacoustic reproduction and to adapt the character and intensity of the experience to each situation and user.

Choose the size

Two sizes are available:

• 100 × 200 × 25 cm · for 100 × 200 cm water mattresses.
• 140 × 200 × 25 cm · for 140 × 200 cm water mattresses.

Choose the base with the same width and length as the water mattress.
