We usually think of music as something we hear. But sound can also become a physical experience.

The Full-Range Vibroacoustic Platform converts the audio signal into mechanical vibrations and transmits them through its surface. In contact with the platform, the body becomes part of the sound experience.

Music, rhythm, voice and other sounds are no longer exclusively an auditory experience: they can also be felt through the body.

And this is where the difference begins.

Much more than bass

Many vibroacoustic systems base the bodily experience mainly on low frequencies. This is one way of feeling the physical impact of sound, but it only makes use of part of it.

HANDYCAT takes a different approach.

Our platform is designed to work across an extraordinarily broad sound spectrum, from 15 Hz to 17 kHz. This allows much more information from the original audio signal to take part in the vibroacoustic experience.

The difference is not simply about producing more vibration.

The aim is not to feel that something is vibrating. It is to feel the sound itself through the body.

Music, voice, rhythm, textures and nuances can become part of a much richer and more complete bodily experience.

It is not simply a matter of adding vibration to sound. It is about discovering a dimension of sound that we normally only hear.

One sound · Three ways to experience it

The platform can form part of a HANDYCAT audio system in which the same source and the same audio content can be experienced in three different ways:

• AMBIENT · Sound is heard through the room loudspeakers.
• VIBROACOUSTIC · Sound is perceived through the body via the platform.
• AMBIENT + VIBROACOUSTIC · The same sound is simultaneously heard in the room and perceived through the body.

There is no need to change the music or prepare special content. What changes is the way the same sound is experienced.

This makes it possible to move from ambient listening to a bodily experience, or to combine both dimensions to create a much more complete sensory experience.

Your body, your position, your experience

The platform does not impose a particular posture. Each person can decide how they want to come into contact with the sound.

It can be used:

• lying directly on the platform or on a mat;
• sitting directly on its surface;
• sitting on a chair, beanbag or soft seat placed on the platform;
• standing;
• while moving, exploring or interacting with the environment.

This freedom makes the platform an especially versatile vibroacoustic surface for multisensory spaces and for sensory, educational, therapeutic, relaxation and wellbeing activities.

The different available sizes make it possible to adapt the surface to the space, the intended activity and the people who will use it.

Make the most of the platform

The platform is a passive device and requires external amplification. This allows it to be integrated into an audio system specifically configured for the space and for the experience you want to create.

A phone, tablet, computer, television, music player or streamer can be used as the audio source. Between this source and the platform, an amplifier compatible with a 4-ohm load and capable of delivering approximately 100–125 W per channel is required.

HANDYCAT offers amplifiers, players, mixers and loudspeakers selected to work with our vibroacoustic devices.

We can configure the system so that it is very simple to choose between:

• ambient sound;
• vibroacoustic perception;
• ambient sound + simultaneous vibroacoustic perception.
